Start with the space, then the size. Mark a 12 × 18, 20 × 30, or 24 × 36 inch rectangle with painter’s tape and leave it there for a day. Notice how it feels when you enter the room and when you sit down.

Our smallest canvas works beautifully in a reading corner or a group of objects on a console. The middle format offers a focal point without taking over. The largest brings the composition forward and lets its details breathe.

Leave enough space around a piece that it feels intentional. Consider furniture, door openings, and nearby objects. There is no single correct measurement: the relationship between the artwork and the room matters most.
